What we accept for recycling

BlueScope Recycling accepts consumer materials at our Mansfield, Ohio, site and we accept ferrous and non-ferrous materials at all our facilities.

  1. Here are a couple rules-of-thumb to help you recycle safely
    Recycle bottles, cans, paper, cardboard, ferrous and non-ferrous materials.
  2. Keep food and liquids out of your recycling. It’s best to ensure that there is no waste left in your recycling prior to dropping it off.

Items we cannot accept 

 

Vehicle liquids

Items containing anti-freeze, engine oil, transmission fluid, fuel, batteries, hood or deck mercury switches.

Undrained items

Items that contain solvents, thinners, gas, oil or grease must be drained thoroughly.

Hazardous items

Gas cylinders, explosives, florescent light bulbs and fixtures, ballasts PCB transformers, contaminated materials, capacitors, oil-filled compressors, microwaves, hospital equipment or any other hazardous waste items. 

Radiation

Any material contaminated with radioactive material. All purchased material must go through a radiation detector before entering our sites. Frequent radioactive materials include oil and gas processing equipment, mining operations, military equipment, and healthcare equipment. 

Plastic bags or other soft plastics

PRO TIP: Plastic bags and other soft plastics can be recycled separately. Check your local grocer or other retailers for drop-off programs. Usually, participating locations have a bin near their entrance where you can recycle clean and dry plastic bags, bubble wrap and air pillows, food packaging (without foil lining) stretch and shrink wrap, frozen food storage bags, bread and produce bags, plastic grocery bags and cereal box liners.
